40-ish and Fine/Fit

2 Nov

I just wanted to salute to the guys still keeping it together. Yes I know there are celebs pictured below so they don’t really count but the sentiment remains the same. It seems as though men in their 30s start to let things slide in the physical realm. And society does nothing but enable them to do so. See Rick Ross (age 35). A good and wise friend once told me that you never know what a man looks like until he’s in his 30s. Indeed.

I find this let-yourself-go tendency among the male gender rather frustrating due to the fact that women are pressured to keep ourselves up at all times and at all costs. We’re constantly being told that men are “visual” creatures as if women walk around blindly, completely oblivious to the undesirable; and that we must aggressively entice the opposite sex with our flesh. Malarkey!

So big ups to my dad who walks 7 miles a day and is the fittest member of our family. And he’s pushing 70.

Shout out to Uncle Ricky who lost 30+ pounds last year and will celebrate his 50th birthday next year. Show them young boys how it’s done.

And last but certainly not least, my cousin Jr. who until his death last year at the age of 51, kept it tight. He stayed in the gym and biked miles around NYC. RIP cousin —  you are missed!

Check out the eye candy below and Ricky Gervais’s take on obesity (funny, harsh, and true).

Disclaimer: I know that weight gain/obesity can sometimes be due your genetic makeup and what not, but often it’s due to poor diet and lack of exercise.

I’m just saying you (we) can do better #Drake
